Individually administered, untimed, norm-referenced, wide-range test of listening comprehension for the spoken word in standard English. Designed to measure the examinee's receptive (hearing) vocabulary, i.e., an achievement test of the level of the examinee's vocabulary acquisition. Also serves as a screening test of verbal ability, or as one element in a comprehensive test battery of cognitive processes, when English is the language of the examinee's home, community, and school.
