The story of Filiberto, a Mexican campesino, who returns to his native village after living in California for three years. The film's title is a manifestation of how difficult it is to return home after a long absence. The night of his return he learns that his mother has passed away, the new landowner -- the son of a former patron -- is in charge, but without the moral and ethical values of his father, and that his former girlfriend, Soledad, is now married to Luis' best friend, and with a child. Finally, Filiberto learns that it's difficult to return home, and his most sensible option is to go back to the United States.
