Gothic type. Title within architectural border, bearing date 1574. The Canterbury tales, The Romaunt of the Rose, and The Story of Thebes: compiled by Iohn Lidgate, monke of Bury, are each preceded by half-title within border showing the houses of York and Lancaster, terminating in Henry VIII. The portrait of Chaucer, preceding the life, has engraved border giving his "Progenie," with coats of arms, etc.

Other variants of the 1598 Chaucer have a different architectural border around the t.p., and have either imprint: London, Printed by Adam Islip, at the charges of Bonham Norton. Anno 1598; or imprint with Thomas Wight in place of Norton's name. Cf. STC.
