Reveals the motivations of some of the most distinguished scientists of our time, from ages 33 to 81. From Madagascar lemurs and a unified theory of everything to language disorders and robotic communities, the scientists talk about their inspirations. From their earliest scientific questions in childhood to their most personal ponderings, these scientists reveal their histories and professional obligations to affect the world. Included is a segment about primatologist Patricia Wright. Wright was a biology major, a former teacher and housewife when she bought an owl monkey as a pet. Fascinated with the animal, she soon carted her family off to study monkeys in South America, later started a unique lemur preserve in Madagascar, and in the process saved a rainforest and mobilized a village to become self-sufficient--all seeded by a MacArthur "genius" grant she received in 1989.
