- Artists' book in 2 sequences. Letterpress printed book designed to be read as two works, with separate title page at each end. Accordion-folded pages with 8 openings on each side. Covers are printed paper continuous with text accordion. On one side ("Idioms"), openings 3-6 each include an additional accordion-folded leaf containing text and illustrations sewn in. On the other side ("Pop-up icons"), openings 3-7 contain cut-out paper pop-ups. Sewing thread dyed to mimic checkerboard pattern. Issued in checkerboard-patterned, cloth-covered drop-spine box with colophon pasted on inside bottom tray. Printed title labels collaged onto front and spine of box.
- "This book was printed by Julie Chen with assistance from Elizabeth McDevitt on Fabriano's Rosaspina paper in an edition of 150 copies and a deluxe edition of 15 copies. The illustration blocks were cut in linoleum by Nance O'Banion. The text was handset in 12 point Gill Sans. Julie Chen designed the book structure and engineered the pop-ups. Sandy Tilcock produced the boxes. Many hands assisted with the binding ..."--Colophon (mounted inside case).
