Ecomapping process provides a family with an opportunity to reflect on their own situation, to identify the resources that are available to them, and the changes that would have to be made in preparation for the important step of adoption.

Dr. Ann Hartman demonstrates the use of the ecomap as a mutual information gathering process and its usefulness in enabling the family to assess its own available resources in the adoption of a child with special needs. Portions of four interviews with prospective parents are shown, illustrating various dimensions of developing the ecomap.
