Osias Welch was born about 1760 most likely in Pennsylvania. First real record of him was of his service in the militia. In 1780 Osias is on the payroll of Captain William McCluer's Company of Militia in the County of Jefferson, Virginia. He married Hannah Hynes in 1783. She was a widow of Nathan Linn. He married Betsy Harcourt in Harrison County, Kentucky in 1797. His third wife was Elizabeth Rowland Poley (d. 1855), a widow of Charles Poley, and a daughter of Joseph Rowland and Catherine Dobbins. Osias and Elizabeth Welch moved to Muhlenberg County in 1817. He had sixteen children with his three wives. Descendants live in Illinois, Kentucky, Arkansas, Iowa and elsewhere.
