The world unmask'd; or, The philosopher the greatest cheat; in twenty-four dialogues ... In which true virtue is distinquished from what usually bears the name or resemblance of it .. To which is added, The state of souls separated from their bodies ... in answer to a treatise, entitled, An enquiry into Origenism ...
Translation of Le monde fou préféré au monde sage, en vingt-quatre pormenades, published anonymously, Amsterdam, 1731, 1733, and 1744.
The authorship of the original treatises, by contemporary writers ascribed to B.L. de Muralt, was revealed in the 3d. ed. of the author's Lettres sur la religion essentielle à l'homme, published after her death by her parents (Londres, 1756) It was, however, believed in Geneva, that Muralt had some share in her books.
The assumption that B. Mandeville wrote the present work is without foundation.
