Earliest edition of the complete Bible in Spanish. Known as the "Bible of the Bear" or the "Bear Bible" on account of the printer's mark on the title page, which was the device of Samuel Apiarius. Although Thomas Guarin is responsible for the greatest part, Apiarius no doubt had a part in its productions.
Translated by Casiodoro de Reina, whose version of the Old Testament is based on the Hebrew following mainly the Latin translation of St. Pagninus and using the Ferrara version along with other translations and commentaries. His version of the New Testament is based on the Greek, with references to other versions.
