Although its contents included jokes and anecdotes, the Weekly Monitor was mainly concerned with promoting morality among youth. To achieve this it offered religious and moral departments, many short moral items, and a series called "The Friend to Youth." Some poetry appeared and deaths and marriages were listed. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
