520    $aPapers from Ericson's Wisconsin National Guard service in the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 128th Mechanized Infantry, in Eau Claire, Wis., including papers on the unit's activation to Gresham, Wisconsin, in 1975 and to the Waupun State Prison in 1977. The collection contains battalion historical materials compiled by Ericson, correspondence and award certificates pertaining to his service, and materials from the Wisconsin National Guard Enlisted Association. Many materials relate to Ericson's editorship of the Battalion's award-winning newspaper, "The First Battalion Sentinel," including copies of the paper, scattered copies of unit newsletters, correspondence, and support materials. Support materials include information about legislation of interest and questionnaires completed by various Wisconsin politicians on their stands on particular issues. Photographs depict unit training and maneuvers, activation events, Unit Day activities with the public, and Guard assistance after the Arcadia, Wisconsin, flood.
520 8_ $aThe unit was activated in 1975 in response to the Menominee Warrior Society takeover of the Alexian Brothers Novitiate near Gresham, Wisconsin, and again in 1977 to act as prison guards at Waupun State Prison during a statewide Wisconsin civil service strike. Included are newspaper accounts of the two incidents, orders and instructions, correspondence, building floorplans, photographs, and miscellaneous materials. Also present is Ericson's handwritten account of the Gresham incident as well as slides he took, accompanied by a captions list.
