Correspondence, research material, memoranda, bulletins, reports, and clippings concerning the proposal, approval, preparation of text for erection, and maintenance of historical markers. The historical marker program was created by Legislative act in 1953. Markers are suggested by groups or members of the public and approved by the State Historical Society staff; there are more than 500 historic markers in the state.
