Records of an organization formed in Madison, Wisconsin, on July 12, 1858 to promote the interests of the Dane County legal profession and for social and professional improvement. Originally known as the Dane County Legal Association, membership is open to those licensed to practice law in Wisconsin and to members of the State Bar. The processed portion of the collection consists of a minutebook, 1858 and 1879-1926, and written memorials, 1879-1892, to deceased lawyers and judges.

The additional accessions, which constitute the bulk of the collection, reflect the Association's sponsorship of educational and professional programs. Included is information about committees, interactions with civic and other local groups, attorney fee schedules, pending legislation, court administration, membership and dues, and programming and social events. There are articles of incorporation, by-laws, and the constitution; additional memorials to deceased attorneys and judges; minutes of meetings of the membership, Board, and Executive Committee; financial records; transcripts of ceremonies held to install new judges; records of the Lawyer Referral Service; newsletters; scripts of a weekly public service radio program (1947-1948); records of the Servicemen's Legal Panel at USO (1943-1945); fragmentary files on the Lawyers' Wives of Wisconsin; and reminiscences of Fred L. Doar, retired Marshal, Wisconsin Supreme Court.

The processed portion of the collection dates 1858 and 1879-1926; the additional accessions date 1858 and 1879-1994.
