Records of the Federal Art Project (FAP) in Wisconsin, instituted in 1935 as part of the Works Progress Administration (WPA). The FAP employed artists, musicians, actors, and writers to focus upon nationalist and patriotic themes and to bring original art to small American towns. The records include correspondence of Wisconsin directors Charlotte R. Partridge, director of the Layton Art Gallery in Milwaukee, and her successor, Margaret D. Clark. The records also include biographical sketches of Wisconsin artists, clippings, records of works produced by the Project, and data on the artifacts used and the drawings and photographs prepared for the Index of American Design.
