Born Blanche Roosevelt Tucker in Sandusky, Ohio (some sources say she was born in Virginia), she traveled to Europe with her mother for vocal studies in Paris and Milan. She made her singing debut at the Royal Italian Opera House, she went on to sing in concerts in Milan, Belgium, Holland, and Paris. Ms. Roosevelt also worked as a special correspondent from Paris in 1875 and later became a well-known novelist. She was the daughter of Senator Tucker of Wisconsin. --Website.
