This case study guides students at the secondary and post-secondary levels to think historically about controversial or problematic monuments to colonial figures. Students will distinguish carefully between "history" and "commemoration", establish criteria for deciding whom to commemorate and how, and draw upon primary sources to understand a colonial figure who is represented in a public monument. Students will then consider whether the monument should be removed, altered, or left as-is, and present their reasoning in the form of a podcast.
