Diary and sketchbook of an anonymous American woman in Germany traveling with a companion (possibly named Elizabeth or Elisabeth, but the diarist refers to her as "The Irresistable One"). Includes many illustrations -- ink drawings and watercolors -- demonstrating technical ability and creativity. The diary begins on July 2, 1901, with their ship's arrival in Germany. She writes detailed vignettes about their life and activities. Most of their time is spent in Berlin. Activities in Berlin include eating "ice cream for dinner," visiting the Tiergarten, Marienkirche and museums, exploring "Friedrichstrasse at midnight," and attending a memorial service for President McKinley at the American Church of Berlin, where they meet other expats. After September of 1901, there are no entries for several months. The diary picks up again in June of 1902, when the diarist travels throughout other parts of Germany. Many pages at the end of the sketchbook are blank.
