A new approach to the theory of the mixing of two currents in an inJector is presented which deals with an incompressible ideal fluid.

The equations of continuity and of motion of a single flow (assumed one dimensional}, although well lmown, are demonstrated in order to facilitate the understanding of the modified theory.

Without advancing any new hypotheses as to the physical nature of the mixing phencmena, the theory shows new potentklit ies in an appropriate shaping of the form of the walls of the mixing zone so as to improve the jet-syphon efficiency beyond that heretofore theoretically predicted. This improvement is shown in spite of the fact that no mathematical optimum conditions theoretically exist.

A few examples of ways to improve jet-syphon efficiency are indicated. Application of the new theory to the case of a constant-pressure ejector thrust augmenter is presented in an appendix.
