The Sociedad Colombo-Alemana de Trasportes Aéreos (SCADTA) Scientific Section was created by Peter Paul von Bauer to provide other types of services than air transport and was headed by the scientist Hermann Kuehl. The Scientific Section offered aerial photography exploration flights, surveys, mosaic plans, and detailed maps for geographic studies for oil and mining companies, plantations, and ranches. In addition, they soon gained experience in projects for the national railways and highways.
