This case study analyzes seven years of data on Course Reserves, a service that allows instructors to provide to their students instant access to readings without either the instructor or the student needing to find access on their own. We sought to identify trends in academic discipline, data format, semester, and faculty member. Using Tableau to generate simple bar charts, the results are presented to separate audiences with graphs specific to each audience, allowing each audience to extract what is relevant from their perspective from the same data. These data visualizations are intended to demonstrate, to both teaching faculty and librarians, the varying rates at which faculty make use of the service. In this case study, we explore how Tableau makes trends visible, and how it can showcase the same data spotlighted differently for audiences depending on their different interests.
