Presentation page from "Travels through Portugal and Spain in 1772 and 1773," by Richard Twiss (London : Printed for the author, and sold by G. Robinson, T. Becket, and J. Robson, 1775), including signed note by William Gilmore Simms. Consists of first blank endpaper of the book which has apparently been torn out; includes Twiss' autograph presentation to "William Dick Esq. & to his lady", signed and dated: Rich. Twiss, Great Russell Street, Bloomsbury, 28 March 1775. Includes a quoted excerpt from Samuel Johnson's critique of the work (called "Twiss' Travels in Spain" by Johnson) in an unknown hand. On the same page is a note by American author William Gilmore Simms signed "W.G.S." Note includes bibliographic information about the travelogue (which Simms refers to as "March through Portugal and Spain"). Also includes three newspaper clippings about Twiss.
