A feature on the development of the relationship between the FGR and USSR as a result of economic cooperation. [WARNING: Contains distressing images of victims of concentration camps.]. The film focuses on the relationship between the FGR and USSR during the Chancellorship of Willy Brandt and Helmut Schmidt, and how opinions towards the USSR changed during this period. Features archive footage from the 1969 elections and the election of Brandt, the signing of the Moscow treaty, and a meeting between Brandt and Brezhnev. An overview of the economic situation in the FGR is given, followed by details of how the economic relationship and trade with the USSR has improved this. Footage also includes interviews with Communists in the FGR who discuss the consequences of being a Communist in West Germany. The rise of neo-Nazism in the FGR is also addressed, and an actor recites the poem "Germany, a Winter's Fairy Tale" by Heinrich Heine, accompanied by still images showing the horrors of the Second World War. The director of the film "Black White Red", Helmut Hurbst, is also interviewed and extracts from his film are shown.
