Archaeologist Eduardo Neves carries out here, based on decades of research, a reconstitution of eight thousand years of history of the human occupation of the central Amazon - from 10,000 years ago to the first moments of European colonization in the sixteenth century. The book offers at the same time a presentation of the craft of archaeology, its methods, parameters, measurements, and the revealing results of recent research, which prove, with the discovery of ceramics dating back 10,000 years in areas of great dispersion, the occupation of the central Amazon, in the meeting of rivers Negro and Solimões, which contradicts the common knowledge that the region would have always been occupied by isolated nomadic populations. The archaeological findings of Neves and his collaborators show the contrary, that it is possible to suppose large clusters of considerable duration and extension, with objects that suggest exchange with other populations of the continent, including peoples of the highlands, in the mountains of the Andes.
