The story is roughly based of an incident happened at a village where author, Toshiko Kishi worked as a classroom teacher of 1st graders at Hachioji Kokumin gakko (villedge elementary school). The incident was more of a city man's prank, and it was an adult problem. The wit of the two boys in the story is almost the same as in this kamishibai story. She was leading discussions with children and gathering their impressions of this incident in her class when she saw a call for educational Kamishibai contest and decided to create one about this incident with her classroom children. She organized the story based on the childrens opinion and ideas and illustrations were created by these children.
