This publication is the first major monograph on the work of the Belgian artist Fabrice Samyn (born 1981). It is organised in various sets of analogies (form, sign, theme), and gives the measure of a work structured as a tree around the question of identity. It thrives in a space which includes diversities and dualities. In it we mainly discover the dualities between icon and idol, light and shade, presence and duration, male and female, author and impostor. Although Samyn's oeuvre developed at the same time as the internet and follows a similar organic growth, it gives full credit to skill and materiality. The artist either seeks close collaboration with craftsman or rises to the challenge of mastering the various media that he uses himself, be it painting, sculpture, poetry and more recently choreography. This copiously illustrated volume contains essays by Vinciane Despret, philosopher of sciences and professor at the University of Liege; Pascal Rousseau, professor of Contemporary Art History at Paris 1, and art historian Wivine de Traux
