Summary

Almansor, the son of a prominent Egyptian sheik, is taken prisoner by the French and forced to live in France for many years. Eventually he meets a French General who was once kind to him years ago...

Almansor, the son of a prominent Egyptian sheik, is taken prisoner by the French and forced to live in France for many years. Eventually he meets a French General who was once kind to him years ago. By coincidence, this turns out to be Napoleon, who has just become Emperor of France. Napoleon frees Almansor from his servitude, but during a sea battle Almansor is again taken prisoner, and this time he is sold into slavery in Algiers. Eventually he ends up back in Egypt, where he is sold as a slave to his own father, who does not recognize him. After Almansor tells the story of his tribulations, his father realizes that he has purchased his own son, whose real name was Kairam, and they are happily reunited.
