As the official archive and publisher for the UK government, The National Archives' extensive holdings include a diverse range of records which consider the subjects of sex and sexuality. Over 20,000 pages of The National Archives' holdings have been digitised for the second module of this collection, including extensive selections from records produced by the Admiralty (ADM), Director of Public Prosecutions' Office (DPP) Home Office (HO), Metropolitan Police (MEPO) and Ministry of Health (MH). This diverse selection of records dates from the mid-nineteenth to late twentieth centuries, covering a range of subjects including prostitution, the legal status of homosexuality, sexually transmitted infections, the AIDS crisis, and the sexual conduct of military personnel.
