In Act III, Othello finds out that Desdemona no longer has the handkerchief he gave her. He is furious, and Desdemona protests her fidelity. Iago lures Cassio into a conversation overheard by Othello. While they talk of Bianca, Cassio's lover, Othello thinks the talk is of Desdemona. Iago had planted Desdemona's handkerchief in Cassio's chambers, and when he produces it, Othello is assured of Desdemona's betrayal. In Act IV, Othello comes into Desdemona's bedchamber, and after she fails to convince him of her innocence, he strangles her to death. When her handmaiden confronts him, Iago's plot is revealed. Horrified, Othello stabs himself, then drags himself onto the bed to die in his wife's arms.
