Letters, photographs, and personal items of William George Hinkins, a private in the 123rd Machine Gun Battalion during World War I. The 123rd Machine Gun Battalion was part of the 33rd Division, 65th Infantry Brigade. Hinkins was killed near the end of World War I in France/Belgium on October 4, 1918. Personal items include a journal, a New Testament Bible, a watch, and Hinkins' dog tags. Letters are addressed to "Hazel" and detail camp life in Camp Grant, IL and in France. Also included are letters to the Hinkins family regarding his death and burial during World War I along with information gathered about his life during the War.
