"The Phillipps manuscript which is reproduced as volume I of this edition was first discovered in 1964. It was bought at Sotheby's, London on June 27, 1966 by Mr. Lew David Feldman of the House of El Dieff, Inc., New York for 90,000. ... Volume II reproduces the manuscript which was left to Magdalene College by Samuel Pepys in his will, dated 1703. The two manuscripts originally formed a single whole ..."
"The paper used was suppled by the Hale Paper Company, London; it has been specially made on the cylinder mould machine at Wookey Hole, Somerset, to resemble the original as closely as possible, and reproduces some of the original watermarks. Colour separation by Schwitter Ltd., Zurich. Printing by Jarrold & Sons Ltd., Norwich. The binding---by Wigmore Bindery, Ltd., London---is as close a reproduction as possible of the binding used by Pepys for Books 10-15. About 3/4 inch all round was cut from the sheets of Books 10-15 before they were bound for Samuel Pepys. The Phillipps manuscript is therefore now the larger. Both volumes of this facsimile edition are in the larger size.": Colophon.
