Attributed to Phoebe H. Brown in "Sketch of the origin and character of the principal series of tracts of the American Tract Society" (American tract magazine, v. 6, no. 11). Sometimes attributed to Elias Boudinot, who translated the work into Cherokee in 1833.
"Poor Sarah" first appeared in the Religious intelligencer (New Haven) January 1-8, 1820. It was reprinted in the Boston recorder March 11, 1820, and was issued as a tract by several publishers during that year.
