Map published in 1885 in Petermanns Geographische Mitteilungen, oldest and most important German-language geographical journal in which all major discoveries of the 19th and 20th centuries were announced. This map, which comprised Tafel 1 in Jahrgang 1885, Band 31 of the journal, outlined the routes of various explorers and surveyors across Mongolia through Qinghai Province to Tibet: expedition of Pundit A.K.[Kishe Singh] of 1879-1882; Russian explorer Nikolay Mikhaylovich Przhevalsky's journeys of 1873, 1876-77, and 1879-80; and Baron Béla Széchényi's expedition of 1879-80. Mountains are shaded in brown and blue, lakes in blue, and the explorers' routes outlined in red. Map includes a small inset map of Lhasa, capital city of Tibet, and a small glossary of Mongolian and Tibetan geographical designations with their equivalents in German.
