"This volume contains the first critical editions of trio sonatas by Quantz, the leading eighteenth-century flutist-composer. Composed in Dresden between 1717 and 1741, the trios predate both his famous Essay on Playing the Flute (Berlin, 1752) and his employment by Frederick the Great of Prussia. Now little known, these stylistically varied works were widely distributed and include some of the earliest trios for the transverse flute. The trios also employ violin, oboe, and obbligato keyboard parts. The edition is supplemented by performance suggestions from the Solfeggi, a manuscript on performance practice from Quantz's circle." --Provided by publisher.
