Description: Scope/Content: Igangan (Ijesha): (1) Side 1-01: Bembe and chorus; (2) Side 1-02: Agogo and chorus [ire agogo]Description: The agogo selection here is a form of Ijesha music known as "ire agogo," in which an ensemble of three to five agogo provide a polyrhythmic setting for heterophonic choral singing, in which intervals of a 2nd or 7th are introduced on the sustained/rest tones (Thieme 1969:332; see also Euba 1967, "Multiple pitch lines" and Thieme "Style in Yoruba music").
