These thoughts tend to occur when Lauren experiences periods of sadness. The last time she had such a thought was several years ago, when she was thirteen. Around that time, when she was 13, Lauren witnessed a girl at school self-harm. Wanting to see what cutting would feel like, Lauren took a razor and made a shallow cut in her leg. She had hoped the cutting would make her feel better, but it didn't. This incident of self-harm also took place when Lauren recognized she became self-conscious of her worries.
