Brian has frequent thoughts about self-harm, but doesn't see ever hurting himself because he gets enough of pain in his daily life dealing with Cystic Fibrosis. For example, Brian describes how nurses have missed his veins, injected medication in his muscles, which is extremely painful. Those experiences are enough for Brian not to cause himself more harm. Brian admits to thinking about suicide and weighing whether or not about it's worth continuing to live, but he's never formulated a plan to commit suicide. Brian often wonders why he has to have Cystic Fibrosis and exist in this choked off world where things will only get worse.
