Published by the Newfoundland Federation of Indians between 1982 and 1992, The Caribou referred to itself as "The voice of the Newfoundland MICMAC" (Mi'kmaq). Each issue of the paper carried the banner, "We need the freedom to live in our own land, freedom to live in dignity and remember our heritage, freedom to live in harmony and be accepted for the proud race we are, MICMAC!" This newspaper primarily focussed on issues affecting the Mi'kmaq peoples and other First Nations peoples such as council elections and land claims. This is also one of the only titles in this collection to feature a regular crossword puzzle.
