Description: First World War papers relating to her work as Assistant Honorary Secretary to the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Comforts for Troops Fund (a Nottingham-based charity concerned with the relief of local soldiers who were serving overseas or who were prisoners of war) including an account of the history of the Fund, a list of Fund helpers, early correspondence to her as a child from the 'Daily Express' concerning her fundraising activities (1904), an example of the letter which accompanied Christmas parcels sent to Nottinghamshire soldiers (November 1914), correspondence relating to the Fund and to her later recommendation for the award of MBE, copies of letters concerning her investiture (May 1919 - April 1921), a letter from the Imperial War Museum's Women's Work Sub-Committee (January 1920), an album of newspaper articles reporting the initial despatch of Christmas parcels to the Nottinghamshire troops (November 1914) and news of POWs (August 1915), and a letter in response to her resignation from the Ministry of Pensions as a typist (October 1922). Also with the collection are 209 postcards (some embroidered or written, many portrait photographs) to her from POWs and soldiers thanking her for the parcels, and an account by her son, recalling his memories of her and of her work for the Fund.
