"Cordels refers to the literature itself as well as to the 'Blue Library'. The cordels are small fascicules that can still be found in the markets of Brazil. They are inexpensive editions, mostly of poetry, with a cover embellished with a wood block print. The 'Blue Library' is made up of editions that were sold in France in the 17th Century, generally by pedlars. It was found for the first time in a printing house at the sign of 'The Crowned Capon', in the city of Troyes. For the most part they were covered with a cheap blue paper. The English equivalent is called a 'chapbook', a pedlar's book."--Box cover.
