Depiction of an accident on the Russian Trans-Siberian Railway during Russo-Japanese War. Russia was working on completing the railroad in order to ship more soldiers and supplies efficiently to the front. The line around Lake Baikal was not finished, and during the winter boats could not operate because of ice. A hasty decision was made to build a rail line over the ice on the frozen lake. However, the ice was not thick enough to support the locomotive and gave way under its weight. The train sank taking many officers and soldiers.
