Ironically, his destination was itself a stronghold of Nazism. In the Reichstag election of July 1932, the NSDAP had received 62.9 percent of the votes cast in Laubach, in contrast to the 37.3 percent of the vote attained by the Nazis nationally. The Social Democrats, who in the closing days of the Weimar Republic had constituted the only real opposition to Nazism in Laubach and the surrounding region, had received only 18.7 percent of Laubach's votes"--Provided by publisher.
