The rectos of leaves 1-228 contain an untitled novel set in a female boarding school in rural New England in the 1840s. The versos of those leaves contain two lengthy manuscript poems by another hand: "Lady Lu" (beginning on the verso of leaf 135, and "Rebecca" (beginning on the verso of leaf 220). These texts run in the opposite direction and orientation from the untitled work on the the rectos and their leaves are unnumbered.
Leaves numbered by the writer of the untitled work in upper right-hand corner. A number of leaves are lacking; leaf 228 is mutilated.
