Diary begins on January 1, 1893. Betsey is apparently staying with or living near her younger sister and family. She also seems to be living with a Mr. and Mrs. Metcalf. Betsey writes about the weather, her family (sister Vira (Elvira Pierce Bourne) and husband Menzo, nephew Eugene Bourne, neice Ella Bourne, sisters Roxa [Roxanne], Nancy and Till [Rebecca Matilda], brother Alfred), visiting Hartwick Seminary (possibly visiting Kinne relatives in the town rather than the school?), receiving calls from friends and neighbors, doing household chores (washing, mending, ironing, knitting, baking, cooking, gardening). Mrs. Metcalf turned 78 years old on February 23; Mr. Metcalf is 82 years old on March 26 and their 50th wedding anniversary on June 14. Betsey writes about picking hops and having dances, going to the fair in Cooperstown. Mr. and Mrs. M are often in ill health. Her sister Till died on December 28 and the funeral was on December 31. Diary ends December 31, 1893.
