"Le révérend Simeon Pease Cheney est le premier compositeur moderne à avoir noté tous les chants des oiseaux qu'il avait entendus, au cours de son ministère, venir pépier dans le jardin de sa cure, au cours des années 1860-1880. Il nota jusqu'aux gouttes de l'arrivée d'eau mal fermée dans l'arrosoir sur le pavé de sa cour. Il transcrivit jusqu'au son particulier que faisait le portemanteau du corridor quand le vent s'engouffrait dans les trench-coats et les pèlerines l'hiver. J'ai été ensorcelé par cet étrange presbytère tout à coup devenu sonore, et je me suis mis à être heureux dans ce jardin obsédé par l'amour que cet homme portait à sa femme disparue."--Page 4 of cover.

Reverend Simeon Pease Cheney was the first modern composer to have noticed all the songs of the birds that he had heard during his ministry, coming to the garden of his cure, during the years 1860-1880. He noticed even the drops of water coming in badly shut in the watering can on the pavement of his yard. He even transcribed the particular sound made by the coat rack of the corridor when the wind was engulfing the trench coats and the pelerines in the winter.
