This film explores the challenges and triumphs of two women, aged 36 and 44, who regained their hearing after undergoing cochlear implant. Janice Todd Wellington lost her hearing in early childhood and spent most of her life compensating for the almost complete loss of this critical sense. Melanie Broom, a married mother of two, is about to receive an implant. With only 30% hearing in one ear, she has been constantly struggling to live normally in this hearing society. The viewer watches as the operation is performed. These two courageous women are enthralled with their new found skill, as they not only hear the voices of their loved ones, but also such everyday sounds as doors closing, birds singing, even the sound of a carrot being cut for a salad.
