At the Verbier Festival, Yuri Temirkanov joins forces with the young Yuja Wang in a program featuring works by Liadov, Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky. A perfect program for the Russian conductor, who has already performed with the Verbier Festival Orchestra several times in the past, notably in a Shostakovich program (available on medici.tv). Yuri Temirkanov is one of the main representatives of Russian music. A former assistant to Evgeny Mravinsky, he has been the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra's artistic director for over two decades. The concert begins with Liadov's Kikimora, a symphonic work built on the Slavic mythological character of the same name and conveying all the mystery suggested by the composer himself, who conceived his "fantastic" work for rare instruments such as the xylophone and the celesta ... Under the baton of Yuri Temirkanov, Yuja Wang performs Rachmaninov's Concerto No. 2, which she has already recorded with Claudio Abbado. Her confidence with this work makes the performance with Temirkanov perfect. The concert ends with some of the most popular arias of classical music: some highlights of Tchaikovsky's ballet Swan Lake, which Temirkanov definitely loves to conduct! Undoubtedly an incredible experience for the young musicians of the Festival to be next to such great artists as Temirkanov and Wang.
