James Chandler biographical sketch, 2015, written by Alice Wood and a few copies of research material she used to write her sketch. Research material consist of copies of the affidavits Mary Moore, Chandler's mother, acquired in 1890, response to her son's death and right to his war pension. Wood's biographical sketch describes both her ancestral connection to Chandler, her great-great-great uncle, and his service as a Union Solder. James enlisted with the 2nd Cavalry, Company E at age 16 in 1864. He was captured during the siege of Vicksburg and sent to Andersonville Prison and then Camp Lawton where he died in October of 1864 at the age of 17.
