The goal of this paper was to use lean manufacturing tools to identify and make a recommendation to management why the dock area of the 26,000 square foot Midwest lamination division facility was causing inefficiencies and lost production. The researcher focused on the A3 report for recognizing the problem and the 5 why process to finding the root cause of the problem. Time observations sheets were used for gathering data of four specific variations with dates and times when material was arriving and leaving the bottleneck dock area. The data gathered from the time observation sheets were used to make a recommendation to management with the number of dock doors and where the dock doors will be placed in the new custom-built building.
