Most WWII COs served as non-combatants in the armed services. Many worked in Civilian Public Service camps, served as medical guinea pigs, and helped reform the mental health system. Those who went to prison fought to integrate the Federal prisons. After the war COs changed America in many ways. They were pioneers in the Civil Rights movement, founded the anti-nuclear movement, created Pacifica Radio and helped guide the anti-Vietnam war movement.
