The study was designed to reveal the effects of three different forms of multiple-choice items on total test scores when the examinees differed in amount of education, chronological age, and level of intelligence as indicated by AFQT centiles. Each of 60 elements of information, suitable for the average high school student, was prepared in three forms of multiple-choice items. An unselected sample of basic airmen was divided into three groups equated on the basis of AFQT centiles. Each group completed a different arrangement of the 60-item test.
